Water crisis may end in Delhi today

Delhi, India
Water supply in northern and central parts of Delhi and Capital region is likely to going to be restored today after water crisis in last few days. Level amount of ammonia in water dropped sharply in river Yamuna and Delhi Jal Board was able to start its Water treatment plants at various locations on Wednesday and even started supplying water in few areas already.

Though the water supply is resumed in the most parts of the Delhi now still water pressure is low and is going to be restored by DJB very soon. Situation was slightly better for people living in private colonies with borewells but worst affected areas where Jal Board supplied water for drinking and day-to-day use.

On Wednesday, Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh asked the Haryana  state government to take appropriate measure against the industrial waste released in Yamuna by factories in Panipat and Sonipat.

Few areas like Vasant Vihar, Moti Baug, Delhi Cantonment, Punjabi Baug etc will be still affected on Friday and Saturday as water supply is not at full pressure and connections are not fully restored to its previous capacity. Supply is also going to be affected because of the repairing work going on the lines that supply water to these areas.

India level the series 1-1

Kingsmead, Durban
After famous win at Kingsmead, Durban, India's only second win in South Africa, India leveled the three Test match series with 1-1. Visitors lost the first Test match badly but fought back in the second match and set target of 303 for South Africa in the final innings. South Africa was dismissed for 215 in 72.3 overs giving India 87 run win at Durban.

After few rainy and overcast morning sessions day was bright and sunny on the fourth day when Indian bowlers took early wickets on the fourth day of the second test match. After beating South Africa India retained its position as No.1 Test Team in the world.

Third test will be played at Cape town and will begin on next Sunday. It may well be a decider instead of the draw as wickets in South Africa so far have produced results in every Test match. Cape town has more dry and flat wicket that may suit Indian well as they are used to play on similar surfaces in subcontinent.

VVS Laxman  yet again played very important role in the second innings scoring 96 runs when India needed them the most. He missed the century there but was the only player in the match who scored run in excess of 50.

South Africa captain said that they lost the match on the very second day when they were all out for just 131 runs as the pitch certainly was not bad and playing conditions improved afterwards that India took benefit of.

Yet again Zaheer khan proved that he is the spearhead of the Indian bowling attack as far as they are playing anywhere out of the subcontinent and has the most important role to play on the field as well. He virtually is India's bowling captain and his experience helped young pacers like Sharma and Sreesanth a lot.

Only 3-0 series win for South Africa would have forced India off the No.1 spot on the world Test rankings but the series leveler in Durban decided that India is going to remain the No.1 Test team in the wold for coming months, as because of the ODI world cup ahead not lot of Test Cricket is going to be played in few months from now.

2nd Test well poised at Durban

Indian hopes are floating high on veteran VVS Laxman, new comer Pujara and Indian skipper MS Dhoni as the second day of the match also belonged too the bowlers and as many as 18 wickets fell in span of 3 sessions.

After winning the toss South Africa put India to bad and Indians scored humble 205 in their first innings. South Africa already lost 4 wickets before the lunch on day 2 of the second test match and match was well in control of India when SA was all out for just 131 runs in their first innings after the lunch break.

India began well in the second innings also with 44/1 on board at one time but middle order again collapsed and once India were reduced to 56/4 when Steyn took Tendulkar's wicket. After that second innings specialist Laxman and Pujara played well to reach the score of 92/4 in 30.5 overs at the end of the day's play.

Surprisingly enough India today bowled as well as fielded very well and got South Africa all out cheaply. It was the bowlers day as South African bowlers also bowled very well at one stage and reduced Indian's to 56/4 before Laxman and Pujara played well to end the day with a good note and 166 runs in lead.

Hero of the day for India was Zaheer khan who  took two early wickets in the first innings of South Africa and put tremendous pressure by bowling good line and length. Sreesanth also supported him well and later Sharma and Harbhajan also bowled well to reduce South Africa cheaply.

Onion vegetable prices at zenith, inflation in red zone

Red Onion
After onions now tomatoes are pushing food inflation graph into double digits once again this  year. Onions left many teary eye in India as price for onion reached as high as Rs. 100/kg. at the start of the week. Onion price is in bit of control now as exports are banned but now red tomatoes have pushed the inflation into the red zone.

Prices of other green vegetables are also on continuous rise as it is blamed on the rain in few regions of Maharashtra. The index for food articles zoomed up 2.3% during the week making things even worse. Unexpected November rains are viewed as the major cause behind the sudden price rise in onion and other vegetables.

Fruit prices are also went up by 20 percent and it also affected the over all food index. If the situation remains same for few months fruits and green vegetables many disappear from the aam-admi's dish.

Opposition parties were on streets to protest high onion and vegetable prices and blamed government for the present situation and its inability to act in time to prevent this situation. Governments efforts in last two days have controlled the price of onion and kept it to reasonable levels after decision was taken to import it from Pakistan. Now price-rise in other veggies may keep Sharad Pawar and his ministry busy for coming days if not weeks.

Chrome OS netbook by Google on Dec 7

If the rumors are true than Google is going to launch its first netbook based on the Google Chrome OS with marketplace. Rumors say that Google is going to launch a table on black Friday based on chromium. Most probably on the December 7th, Tuesday Google may announce about this officially.

It is believed that HTC has made around 65,000 atom processor powered netbooks for the Google employees and it will be tested by them before the mass launch. Most probably chrome is going to be a cloud based OS that needs least resources at client-side. Chrome 8 is going to be the first version that supports the Chrome web store.

If the applications are transfered to the web than performance and cost issues about the netbooks can be solved very easily on the long run with a cloud based Operating system. This kind of device needs less processing power and storage space and can transfer most of the work load to the cloud on the web.

Tobacco companies stop cigarette production

Indian Tobacoo giants like Indian Tobacoo Company (ITC) and Godfrey Phillips India (GPI) have suspended their production nationwide from last Wednesday to protest against the recent order by the Centre for health warnings on cigarette and beedi packets. Production has stopped because of the uncertainty over the pictorial warning messages.

Cigarette manufacturers have said that there was no clarity on types of warnings to be carried on the packages so production is stopped for sometime now. Government is going to lose more than Rs. 100 Crore daily in form of excise duty due to this halt in production. ITC has stopped production at five plants across the country since wednesday.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare issued the warning in May 2010 to all cigarette manufactures to show pictorial warnings on all tobacco product packages in the country. This warnings should be like depicting a cancer-stricken mouth as instructed by the ministry but there is some confusion and uncertainity over this issue and companies are hoping that the deadline of December 1, 2010 may be pushed back for sometime.

Opposition demands JPC, nothing else

L.K. Advani Blog
Work in the Parliament adjourned for 15th day in row during this winter session due to opposition's constant demand for JPC and nothing else in the 2G spectrum scam involving former Telecom Minister A. Raja and others. NDA (National Democratic Alliance) led by BJP today declared that they will not settle for anything less than a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC).

Addressing a press conference opposition leader L.K. Advani said that government is indifferent to the problem of corruption and it has affected both governance and society in negative manner. He also added that corruption is one issue that NDA feels very strong about and are ready to take some concrete steps to better governance.

The All-party meeting on Tuesday failed to break the more than 10 days long logjam that has almost deadlocked both upper and lower house of the Indian Parliament over the biggest scam in Indian history till date involving unfair alllocation of spectrum in 2G to certain mobile companies by former Telecom Minister A. Raja. Both Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha were adjourned for one more day today with opposition constantly demanding for JPC and nothing less.

Advani also added that Mr P.J. Thomas, Central Vigilance Commisioner appointed by central government, who refused to step down, has recused himself from investigations but the fact that he won't resign justifys BJP's stand and shows that government is not serious about corruption especially CWG and 2G spectrum allocation scam.

Radia tapes' impact

After Supreme court of India suggested to protect and make tapes (telephonic conversations) public more secrets are going to be revealed soon. Tuesday night Barkha Dutt faced the panel of editors who questioned her about her role in the controversial Radia tapes that were made public first by Open magazine and later by Outlook magazine.

This tapes after going public have caused embarrassment in journalism circles as they have top editors of media houses, such as Barkha Dutt, Vir Sanghvi, Prabhu Chawla and M.K. Venu, having dubious conversations with corporate lobbyist Niira Radia. Few believe that journalists are involved in powerbroking and helping lobbyist to get in touch with the certain sections of government. The editors who are part of the controversy, however, have strongly denied the allegations against them.

Panel for Tuesday's special unedited telecast was comprised of experts from the field of journalism like:

Advisory Editorial Director HT Media Vir Sanghvi
Editor-in-chief The Hindu N Ram
Political Editor Open magazine Hartosh Singh Bal
Consulting partner Perfect Relations Dilip Cherian
Editor Languages India Today Prabhu Chawla
Editorial Director India Today M.J. Akbar

Former Telecom Minister
A. Raja
In the supreme court today former Telecom Minister A.Raja questioned the findings of CAG as speculative and numbers involved in the scam as mind boggling. He also told the court that he is victim of trial by media and Rs. 1.76 lakh crore scam is just mind boggling and exaggerative.

He said that the CAG's findings are subjective opinion and may not bear the judicial scrutiny. Court also observed that the bypassing of Prime Minister's reservations bt Telecom ministry is not acceptable as it can't function like a private business house or corporate house.

Court believed that bypassing Prime Minister is not at all proper and the functioning needs to be more transparent. Court also sarcatically noticed that only 45 minutes were given to prospective licensees for submitting documents including demand drafts and finishing other formalities within the time frame, which is not possible without telepathy.

9% growth possible in this fiscal

Pranab Mukherjee
In the second quarter ended in September economic growth was recorded at 8.9% much better in recent times. Between years 2005 and 2008 India has booming economy with growth rate in 9% plus figures and it stayed for long time, so can it be revived again this year? Major reason behind this growth of  8.9% in this quarter is due to the good monsoon rain and boom in agriculture sector.

In the data released today by the Central Statistical Organisation revised the first-quarter growth figures from 8.8 per cent to 8.9 per cent. This has revived the hope for 9% growth in whole financial year and can be sustained for some time due to good monsoon and boom in other sectors too. India's finance minister, Pranab Mukherjee, told media that International Monetary Fund's projection of 9% growth for India may be correct for now.

Apart from farm sector recovery in services sector also helped achieve growth rate close to 9%. There is more than 8% growth for three straight quarters now and it may help to achieve overall 9% growth this fiscal year. Policymakers said they would revise upwards the growth estimate for 2010-11 after looking at the recent growth figures released by CSO.
