4th FIR by CBI in CWG case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) In New Delhi today carried out raids on various Commonwealth Games Organizing Committee chief Suresh Kalmadi’s aides and companies that were allegedely invloved in the scam in the sporting extravagenza. In the CWG scam case CBI conducted the raids at as may as ten different locations across Delhi and National Capital Region (NCR).

The fourth FIR in connection with irregularities in organization and overlays was lodged against a top official today even though Suresh Kalmadi's name is not mentioned in the same.

Carrying its probe deeper into the alleged multi-crore Commonwealth Games overlays scam, the Central Bureau of Investigation registered its fourth FIR on Thursday.

CBI conduced raids at ten places that included premises of four companies in connection with the CWG scam.

In the overlays scam case games Director General V K Verma and CWG Secretary General Lalit Bhanot has been named as accused.  Verma's name is figured also in the third FIR filed by the CBI in connection with the Rs 107 crore Swiss Time Keeping deal with a private firm.

Kalmadi's name does not figure in the latest FIR by Central Bureau of Investigation and Verma had earlier been questioned by the agency for his alleged involvement in irregularities during the conduction of Games' projects.

Premises of four privately-owned companies were also searched in connection with the ongoing investigation by CBI one of the official said today. The agency have so far charged three lower-ranking officials in the scam who are now in police custody awaiting trial.

Yesterday CBI also introgated Suresh Kalmadi for eight straight hours in connection with the case. The Delhi and Pune residences of Kalmadi including the Organising Committee's office were raided by the agency on 2th of December last year and lot of documents, laptops and computer discs were seized in the eight-hour-long searches conducted by the officials.

The worst part of it was that the raids came two long months after the mega event concluded amid allegations of major financial irregularities, and many believed that gave enough time to officials of CWG OC to go for cover-up operations.
