Salman Taseer, Governor of the Punjab Province in Pakistan, was killed today by one of his own bodyguards today. This is considered the most high profile political killing in Pakistan since prime minister Benazir Bhutto was assassinated during a political rally in 2007.
Prime minister of Pakistan Yosuf Raza Gilani has appealed to the nation to stay away from rumors and keep peace as he is also facing political pressure for last few months. Pakistan has the history of bloody riots after political assassinations and this high profile murder may add fuel to fire in political chaos country is going through right now.
Interior Minister of Pakistan, Rehman Malik told media that Salman Taseer had been shot because of his high-profile opposition to the controversial blasphemy laws in Pakistan. Mr. Taseer was aged 56.
Body guard confessed that he killed Salman Taseer because he called the blasphemy law a black law. He is under arrest now. Taseer was one of the most liberal politicians from the ruling party in Pakistan, Pakistan People's Party (PPP).
Spokesperson of the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party, Fozia Wahab, told reporters that all party engagements have been cancelled for the fortnight and the party will mourn the death his leader for 15 days.

After the women, Rathna Pathak, stabbed him death he was rushed to the nearby hospital but profuse bleeding caused his death, noted the doctors attending him after incident.
Rupam was standing in the queue of visitors and when she was close enough to the MLA she took out a knife she carried under her shawl and stabbed MLA (Member of Legislative Assembly) in neck and chest causing him severe injuries that led to his death.
Rupam was also injured after the crowd lost controlled and kicked and pushed her for some time. She was critically injured after the incident and was admitted to the government hospital in Purena under police custody.
BJP is the ruling party in Bihar in alliance with Chief minister Nitish Kumar's Janta Dal - United (JDU). News of the incident spread like a wildfire in Bihar.
Bihar's Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) president C. P. Thakur condemned the killing of MLA and said the case must be probed thoroughly by Bihar Police before drawing any conclusions in the case.
